Recently, in a landmark operation spearheaded by the National Cybersecurity Agency (NCA) in collaboration with Trend Micro, a comprehensive analysis of LockBit-NG-Dev, the developmental version of LockBit ransomware, was conducted. It is anticipated the LockBit group was responsible for around 25 percent of all ransomware leaks in 2023, causing billions of dollars in losses.

Working in collaboration with law enforcement agencies Trend Micro took over LockBits’ entire leak site infrastructure. The operation resulted in the apprehension of 2 individuals, the indictment of 5 more, the public release of all decryption keys, the freezing of over 200 cryptocurrency wallets, and the confiscation of 34 servers distributed across eight countries.

Trend helped prevent the release of the group’s next malware products and automatically installed protection for Trend Micro customers, even before the group themselves had finished testing.
